The danger is expecting things to work as they used to.

Sam Altman, Dario Amodei and Elon Musk have all, in their own way, argued for caution on AI. It is worth asking what that actually means, because I do not think it means slow down for the rest of us. AI is still the best tool we have for working with probability, and for most practices the real risk is not using it at all.

What they are pointing at is control. Think of riding a horse. The horse is far stronger than you, and that is the point. What makes it usable is the harness, which is why someone much smaller can direct something much bigger. Nobody argues for a slower horse. They argue for reins.

So the danger is not the power of the new thing. The danger is looking straight at that power and still expecting everything around it to work the way it always has. Same process, same decisions, same week, with a much stronger animal underneath.

Data-driven is what the harness is made of. You react to what came back. You adapt when the environment changes. You run a small test instead of a big argument, and you let the result decide. None of that is technically hard. The hard part is leaving yourself a bit of room, because a plan with no room in it cannot take new information.
